Dissenting Opinion Relative to Blogs

All,

I solicited colleagues to review and post comments relative to this blog. I received the response below, and in the attempt to be all inclusive, including opinions which do not agree with the blog, or my opinions, asked for, and received permission to post this reply from someone who didn't want to contribute in what was or could be perceived as a negative response.

Sorry, but I generally tend to view blogging as akin to masturbation -- one person drizzling on about whatever they're obsessed with, without really any need for anyone else. Most of the blogs I've read are that way -- one person's soapbox. Since I didn't want to add a slam to your nice new blog, I'm just letting you know in private that I'm not a blogger fan and will politely decline to include my insightful comment on your blog.

Is there utility in blogs are are they full of hot air? I will of course, forward my finished project with the empirical evidence and maybe come to a greater understanding with my esteemed colleague and perhaps do some growing in the process.

I just received this from another colleague who didn't have a Google Password:

Hello! To me, blogging is just like a coffee shop conversation. Some people blabber on while I'm sipping my double mocha frappachino, and others are quite interesting. I actually like to read blogs that are related to newsworthy events because it gives me insight to others' opinions. True, some have different views from mine. In my opinion, I enjoy 'hearing' what other people think, whether I agree or disagree. It gives me some 'fat to chew on'. If I think they are too much 'out there', I can simply ignore what they say. Bonus..I don't have to pay for their coffee

This speaks to a 360 degree view of a topic. Very often people have their point of view and forget about how somebody's situation may impact their perspective. Here we have several different opinions of blogs from some very learned colleagues of mine.

The 360 degree view offered by active and responsible Blogging

Greetings all,

The subject of this Blog relative to education and business is the use of Blogging in the in the educational and business environment to gain a thorough knowledge of a subject through a 360 degree approach.

Very often we approach a problem or opportunity with our own unique perspective or personal bias based on our experiences, perceptions, so on and so forth. Many times though, one point of view or line of thought/reasoning is based on a singular view or orientation, and the focus should really be on what is important such as the Voice of the Customer.

In order to get a full understanding of a situation, one must make every effort to collect and study all available data in order to make a fully informed decision. Effective Blogging can provide that service when employed to stimulate a discussion and collect the thoughts of all involved stakeholders.

Blogging can spread a subject out to the world or a target audience, and generate feedback and discussion, especially focusing on points of view that others share to give a thorough and complete examination of the subject of the Blog. People who may not otherwise want or be able to contribute to the knowledge shared are now able to do so, enhancing the discussion and sharing of information so that a greater understanding and higher level of knowledge are achieved.

It is therefore a key competency to stimulate effective discourse with proper Blogging and related involvement to make use of the free tools available today on the Internet. The next time you have an important issue or matter, create a Blog and get the right people involved for a creative and effective way to share and receive information online.

Thanks for stopping by........Thoughts?

Virtual Communication Via Blogs

Blogs are a really useful way to disseminate information and encourage dialogue from anywhere in the world. Once a blog is established, participants can be notified (if they so choose) of any new posts either by the blogger or by auto notifications if that feature is available.

Blogs can be made from a computer at home or work, a laptop in an airport, or off of a BlackBerry on another continent. This form of digital easy access and dissemination is really useful in the world's exchange of ideas, which can be made anytime and anywhere across the great digital divide.

Blogging for Communication in Education and Business

There was a saying I once heard in the Marine Corps about effective communication. It said that it took an act of Congress to make a General, but it took effective communications to make him or her a Commanding General.

I have seen over and over again the success or failure of some project or activity either in an academic or business invironment. Communication in this fast paced world is crucial for correct performance, but also crucial for competative performance relative to the world marketplace. That is why I consider effective communication so essential in my corporate and educational endeavors.

Effective communication generates so much more value to any process by enabling efforts to focused on the task at hand. This is crucial in collaborative activities in a team oriented environment or interactions with outside stakeholders such as customers for example.

The use of technology greatly facilitates communication. The speed alone of the communication employed is not the the only determining factor on how effective the communication is, but an additional element of consideration is the content. Instant or text messages travel at the speed of light, but instant communication can be poor communication if it is unclear or incorrect. Technology alone is not a sole determinant of effective communication, but it can be used as a tool facilitate communicative efforts to further the efforts undertaken.

Methods of communication utilizing today's technology vary. A blog such as this can be used to share information and viewpoints. A 360 degree view sometimes provides perspective not fully realized or appreciated unless the discussion of the issue is undertaken. Each new entry is a new layer of thought, and more and more interactions produce greater stimulation of the subject.
